• The 3rd generate has better blues/cyans/greens than the 2nd gen - but the important part is the wireless security implemented. The 3rd gen hub uses secure Wi-Fi connections. This is a requirement for any device to be compatible with the Apple Home app. This means that the 3rd gen can be controlled using Siri.

• The bulbs are 3rd generation (if bought separately, they'd be labeled "Richer Color"). These bulbs are capable of making actual greens and blues.
