QuestionWhat is the difference between this one and the 2nd Generation model

- Answer The 3rd generate has better blues/cyans/greens than the 2nd gen - but the important part is the wireless security implemented. The 3rd gen hub uses secure Wi-Fi connections. This is a requirement for any device to be compatible with the Apple Home app. This means that the 3rd gen can be controlled using Siri.

- Answer A single bridge can support up to 50 lights. So, you would only need one bridge in most cases. I guess its possible the bridge could be in a location that couldn't reach some of your lights but i have not seen anyone complain of such issues.

QuestionHow long do the Gen3 bulbs last?

- Answer The spec says 25000 hours. It's not clear if this is the MTBF or if is the L70 curve. If you run them for 8 hours every night, that should work out to about 8.5 years of life. My guess is that some will probably fail before 25000 hours and some will fail after that. Part of that will probably depend on how cool the bulb stays when it is operating. In an enclosed light fixture, they will get hot.

- Answer Yes, these bulbs work with Google Home. You just download he Google home app and hue app and follow the instructions to integrate the two.

QuestionCan you put one of these bulbs in the enclosed light fixture over the front door (on the outside) and use your phone to turn it on when you drive up?

- Answer Yes you're able to put them in an outside light as long as it's close enough to pick up the wifi. However you'll only be able to turn them on if you are connected to the wifi on your phone and the signal is strong enough. The only reason you wouldn't be able to do that is if your connection isn't strong enough.

- Answer Yes. I use Google Home to change the color. You can change them all at once or choose an individual light to change. I recommend not using numbers (1, 2, 3) when you label each light because Google Home can confuse them for brightness settings.

- Answer Almost certainly not. Hue uses ZigBee for communication and ZigBee is a low-power standard that operates in the 2.4GHz frequency range. 2.4GHz waves are absorbed very efficiently by water.

- Answer The hub connects to your WiFi network; the lights connect to the hub. If your WiFi goes down, you can still operate the lights with Philips controllers that use ZigBee, although the phone app, Google Home and Amazon Echo etc. will not work since they use WiFi to talk to the hub.

- Answer Yes. As long as the enclosure is not too small.. but it should fit anyway. The hue lights are about the same size as any other light bulbs...

- Answer A19 is the bulb shape. E27 (or E26 here in the USA) is the size of the socket screw base, also called a medium base. A19 is the sandard indoor light bulb shape. They also have a BR30 shape bulb that fits into the standard ceiling can fixtures and it has the E26 medium base as well.

- Answer I'm pretty sure the 220 would damage the bulbs in the socket. You might send Philips an email.

- Answer It depends on the color of the translucent cover and how much light it blocks. If you use matte or milk-white Plexiglas for the cover, the loss is minimal and the color shift negligible. Most of the time, my Hue lights are not at full power so if there was light loss, it could be compensated by setting the brightness a bit higher. Be sure to provide sufficient ventilation in the enclosure. While LED lights run a lot cooler that incandescent lights, the electronics still emit a certain amount of heat. Overvoltage and heat are the biggest factors in shortening the life of modern LED lights like the Philips Hue.

- Answer You can use your light switch to turn these lights on and off if you wish. I wouldn't think you would have problems with other people's bulbs being used in the same building.

QuestionGot this as a Xmas gift....connected it to our wifi & Google Home. Works great while we are on our own wi-fi via Google...BUT we can't control the lights when away on Mobile Data via the Philips app, wont turn on, off, individually or as a group. Nothing.
