Once you setup everything all you have to do is create/login for Phillips Hue then onces you are logged in you can control your lights while you are away from home as long as the lights are connected to the internet. Also, you can set routines, timers, leaving, coming home options.

Then on your Philips Hue phone app (download either android or iPhone application for your device) just log in to your account. I think you can also use iPad "Home" app to act as a sort of control center for Philips Hue, and then use iPhone "Home" app to control lights remotely instead of using Philips Hue app.
