• Depending on what you are wanting to do with your lights, the Hue app, and HomeKit (if you are using an iPhone). Light DJ is another good one as well

• The Hue app is designed for this kit , that said all of the 3rd party apps work well.

• The Philips Hue app gives you good "remote control" over the on/off state, color, and brightness of each bulb. I'd suggest using that to start. For full automation and control, have a look at OpenHAB.
