• This plugs into the wall and does not have a battery backup.

• It plugs into the wall. Unfortunately it has no place for a back up battery like some alarm clocks so if the power goes out or it gets unplugged, even for a second, then you have to reset the time and the alarm. That's it's only shortcoming in my experience.
