The pass-through will work with most any HDMI connection. There may be a few odd devices that won't work, but nearly all standard HDMI devices will be fine. As for the bass question, it doesn't put out any sound itself just the low frequency signal. While car audio subwoofers are powered by their connection to amplifiers, home theater subs are powered units. Any sub you attach to this system will have a power connection to a wall outlet and a signal input. The amount of bass you hear is mostly determined by the power/quality of the sub you use. The receiver will allow for adjustments to the amount of bass you hear (increasing and decreasing the volume and power of the sound), so as long as you have a decent sub, you will get all the bass you want.
