you can do it via USB and also wirelessly if you have the w4500nex or w4400nex. just remember on the initial setup you must pair your phone via bluetooth first then via wifi and make sure you have car play selected in the pioneer receiver settings, after that CarPlay will auto launch everytime you turn on your car.

You don't need to with the AVH-W4500NEX, however with the 1330 you do, I also had quite a few issues using the 1330 with it freezing and refusing to start up.

No you do not. It supports wirel Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
