“My question about the Pioneer Elite is about the speaker hook ups. What is the speaker placement for the outputs marked "Extra1". It's the output between the Top Middle and Surround. I get that Top Middle is for Dolby Atmos. But Extra1 has me puzzled.”

If you use one pair of overhead or upward channels, then you would use the Top Middle terminals. The Extra outputs are additional outputs if you are using front and rear overhead channels, either wall/ceiling mounted or upward-firing speakers, then you will use the Extra 1 and Extra 2 pre-outs for the additional two channels of amplification.
