Yes it will fit But you need special harness and kit And professional installation

All double dins will fit a 97 Explorer. It will require milling out the top and bottom inside lip of the car’s trim where the unit mounts. You will then take the metal sleeve that came with the unit, slide it in the opening of the car’s trim, and bend in the appropriate tabs that will hold the sleeve in place.
