Short. I like that because I slip the computer in the cover and can charge it. There is a handle centered on the long side

Short - on the "top". The handle is on the long "side".

Right down the middle and there is a pocket on each side.

If by “short” you mean opens at the short end of the sleeve, yes. The long end has a carrying handle
