No. It uses the phone information and sends that information to the head unit screen. The head unit and phone communicate with each other. In short, the phone GPS is used and the video and audio from the phone is sent to the head unit. The head unit has a larger screen and is permanently mounted so your phone can be safely placed in your vehicle and you have hands free operation while driving.
