I have been able to successfully use the Voyager Edge Ear piece without an earhook. There is a loop on the ear bud that secures in the ear... I do choose to use the earhook for my own peace of mind... but it is not necessary unless you plan on headbanging or shaking your head "no" vigorously for an extended period of time. :)

For the first few days I used the ear hook that came with the Edge but the fitting (there are 3 sizes) fit properly into ear so unless you are jumping up and down or running you would not need the loop for daily use. Actually its easier to use / recharge the Edge without the loop - using the loop for a few days got a little annoying as to charge it with the included charger meant one would have to take the loop off. So the answer is...yes you can use it WITHOUT the loop.
