A:AnswerAs long as you're speeds are the same and voltage are the same in your motherboard can accept that much RAM and they should work fine you do not need to of the same gigabytes sized sticks. I have a 8 and 4gb, 1.3 volt 1600mhz and they work fine
A:AnswerMore than likely, yes. If you are upgrading from 4GB.
Max RAM as per product specification is 8GB.
Similar to the OEM specification from the hardware manual (page 26):
DDR3L-1600 MHz, SODIMM × 1 (max 8 GB) (Lenovo ideapad 110-15ACL/Lenovo ideapad 110 Touch-15ACL)
Tools may read out max ram that can be supported by the chipset (example icore i5-6200U) but as per whole system performance (considering other specification and devices), more than 8 GB may not be necessary or would it not be practical to get a 32GB or 16 GB expensive RAM.
8GB is the OEM recommendation certified for the machine as no upgrade more than 8GB was verified yet.
To those willing to try to test it, maybe with a spare or have a good return option before proceeding.
Hope this help answer your query.
A:AnswerThere are several models and years of the Sony Vaio Laptops, when did your purchase yours, and what's the model number? We need to know if it's DDR3 or older.
A:AnswerAs long as it is DDr3 it should work, I have a Dell Studio XPS almost 10 years old and it worked, however I also got a 4GB memory card and when I installed it along with the 8GB card the system did not accept it. So use the same memory card multiple times if you want to upgrade or leave a memory slot empty...
