Mine is silent and installed myself making sure every nut and bolt was tight. It seems like the root cause of noise others have experienced is due to poor installation. It is an easy installation and DIY is probably the best way to ensure every connection point is solid. Or at least being present during the install to keep an eye on things. The only tricky part was getting the plastics shields wrapped around the point where the handles connect to the main body of the machine. It is necessary to move the handles around to get at the connection point. I would not be put on off by concerns about noise or squeaking with proper install. This is a great machine. Compact, allows for easy to very hard workouts, and a great balance between climbing and elliptical motion.
