A:AnswerThe Google tv seems to have to be online to work(internet). Although the "basic" Google tv is offline(no selected network/no internet). The two options are offered and can switch when you feel like it(at least that is what I do). So, yes you can turn off the smart function(apps) but the "basic" is online but no internet/no apps/no network. Antenna tv and DVD and Blu-ray players can be used on both options. The "basic" option has to be selected for the Google tv to work minimally. I also have a dumb TV and I do not have to worry about this.
