You can go into or call the nearest Best Buy. They will have a map of all transmission towers in your area and they can tell you how far away you are from the towers. This model picks up signals 45 miles away or less.

Make sure you point it to the direction of the nearest tower (has to be no farther than 35 miles). If you have problems with reception, put some aluminum foil on the ears. If not satisfied, return it.
