• it has to do with what the stations are broadcasting in. some broadcast in 1080 some in 720.

• if the tower is transmitting hd it should be 1080i if it is not hd it will be 720

• It will only receive whatever the station is transmitting. A lot of broadcasters went with 720p rather than 1080i because the 720p shows fast action (like sports) better.
