Need to use a xbox remote with the 3.5 input.

I use it with all my controllers due to the features it has on the adapter itself. They can be found on Amazon for $40 from what I can tell Best Buy no longer carry them unless you find it on clearance at your local store.

So if your controller is the older version then yes you will need the headset mixer adapter. It is a great adapter with volume/mute/and game and chat mix all on the adapter! I currently use it even with my newer controllers!
