Q: Questionwhat is the range of the motion detector in feet or yards
Asked by bullwinkle.
- A:Answer Mine detects motion at about 15-20 feet away, and I have mine set on high. My purpose is for my elderly Chihuahua (has cataracts) so when she is outside, she can find her way back. The batteries seem to last a few months, but I have mine set to 3 minutes to give her time to get back. It is a nice spot light for the money and I am totally happy with mine, I highly recommend this spot light.

Q: QuestionCan I attach the Ring to the brick that is on the outside of my house?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Ring provides screws and plugs. Most likely you can drill into the bricks, insert the plugs, and screw the screws into the plugs. That is what I planned to do. However, the range of the motion detector is a problem for me. I want to deter a graffiti artist who climbs onto a roof of a garage to paint on the wall of our building. The motion detector is great, but it does not detect motion that is more than 25 feet away. So I am going to use the light in another location. I put the new 10 year batteries into it. Hope they last a few years.

- A:Answer Hello Anna, Great question! Yes, the Ring Smartlight Spotlight can be installed on concrete. Please see the following instructions: Hold the mounting plate firmly against the surface and drive the three mounting screws. If installing on a masonry surface, use the mounting plate as a template to mark pilot holes, making sure the “up” arrow is pointing upward. Then drill the holes and insert the anchors. Q: QuestionHow does it fair in the winter?
Asked by Kay.
- A:Answer Hello Kay, Great question! This depends on your local weather and some critical temperatures. Extremely cold weather has unfortunate effects on lithium-ion batteries such as those used in Ring devices. As the temperature drops, these batteries begin to have trouble holding a charge and if it gets cold enough, they'll stop working altogether. As a result, at certain temperatures, the batteries in your Ring device may run out of power faster than expected and may need to be recharged more often. The following are key temperatures to watch out for in regard to your batteries: 36°F (3°C): The battery may not hold a charge as effectively, resulting in you having to charge the unit more frequently. 32°F (0°C): The battery may not charge at all. Even hardwired configurations may not charge the battery. -5°F (-20.5°C): The battery may stop working completely until temperatures warm up. Here is an article that elaborates a bit further on cold weather and battery operated Ring cameras: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360042686872-Cold-Weather-and-Battery-Powered-Ring-Cameras. Ring Community is our first peer-to-peer community forum, giving our customers the ability to help one another and share their feedback/experiences with Ring.
