• Each step light has it's own motion sensor. I have approx 12 different smart lights in my backyard and the nice thing is that they are all synced on my app. When one gets tripped they all light up. You can set them up however you want. Have fun.

• No you don't need to but you can. They are great and easy to install and you can put them anywhere. We put in a pantry and in a hallway where there is no outlet for night light. Works great!
