Yes, ours is only with the battery pack.

Yes, the ring can utilize a battery.  It does not have to be hard wired.

Yep, just need to keep in mind that the battery does take several hours to charge, so may want a second.

Yes, and depending on how often motion is detected, will determine how quickly the battery life will drain. Mine detects motion frequently and for me the battery lasts about a month or two then needs recharged. Best to buy extra batteries and charge them ahead of time so as not to have the camera disabled while the battery recharges.
