no, you don't need the chime, it notifies you on your cell phone when there is motion or when someone presses the button. However, It might drive your crazy if there is a lot of traffic passing in front of your door. there is no on/off switch.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The doorbell is a little heavy and to keep it from being stolen I would not recommend using command strips. The doorbell plate can be installed using as few as (2) screws but (4) are provided and recommended. Hopefully your apartment complex would not mind having a few small screw holes. Once the plate is mounted the doorbell slides onto it and is secured by two special screws that lock it in place and prevent it from being stolen. As far as the chime goes, you do not need to buy the chime if you always have your phone with you. As soon as someone presses the doorbell your phone will alert you. If you don't always have your phone with you and want to go old school then go ahead and pick up the chime accessory as well. This would also be the case if you want a functional doorbell that someone else can answer when you are not in your apartment. Hopefully this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You can install it with the tape but it will make it that much easier for someone to steal it. You don't have to have a chime because it will ring to your phone.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hi Amreader, Thanks for reaching out. Our Ring Video Doorbell and Ring Video Doorbell 2 can both be battery operated. This means that you will not need a pre-existing doorbell for it to work. Thanks, Kaitlyn R., Neighbor Satisfaction Specialist [email protected]
