“Can a USB cable be purchased for it for in home charging? Being able to charge in the car only is inconvenient”

Yes, but you must verify the voltage if using a charger. If you use your computer it's a safe bet your device will charge fine albeit slowly.

All you need is a USB cord charger use for Android phones and you can plug in any where.

If your home charger has the same connector, you can use it also. I charge my htc phone with the Motorola car charger And use the HTC home charger for the Bluetooth.
