• try google. backlit doesn't mean there are lights on the back of the tv. it's the method of projecting the image on the screen as opposed to CCFL.

• There’s no option to turn it off, however you can bring the backlight down. Be aware though that the backlight is what lights the TV, and the image will be much more dim on its lowest setting.
