The Roku Express uses an IR remote, so line of sight is required to use the remote. The Roku 3 does not, so the unit can be kept hidden. Also, the Roku 3 remote has the option for voice searching and a headphone jack for listening to shows privately. The Express doesn't have these features.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I purchased both the streaming stick and the Ultra. I purchased the streaming stick because it was inexpensive and I wanted to try the roku - I figured for $35 it wouldn't be such a big loss if it wasn't all it was advertised to be (I first read about it in a magazine). It literally took me about a week to go through all the channels - so many and such variety! It could replace cable. We love it. We loved it so much we purchased 3 others for Christmas gifts. My niece that doesn't have cable is thrilled with it. We found that the bulk of channels are free, but even the few that charge have free sections of movies, if you are willing to just put up with approx 3 commercials segments several times throughout the movie. We went back and purchased the Roku Ultra for our smart tv - it caters to the 4K quality - which is awesome because you can tell the difference in viewing pic. We also like the easy setup, the command vioice control and ear jack for private listening on this one. The roku is simply a whole new way of viewing tv and getting more free channels in every catergpry you can imagine. Honestly, if your tv doesn't have roku...it's boring :)
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It's a bit slower connecting to the wifi but over all it works the same
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Slower performance and IR remote, requiring direct line of sight between the remote and the player. If you want the performance of the Roku 3, and no limitation on line-of-sight for the remote, go with the Roku Stick.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have the Roku 3 and its far better than the Roku Express. I had to return the Express because the remote is hard to use and it doesn't load Netflix at all! If you had to use I would recommend the Roku 3.
