Yes you need wifi. There is no Ethernet connector on this version. Once u plug it all in u have to setup a login and then then login to any apps you have too

Yes, you need WiFI for any of the streaming apps. and to down load os updates.

Plug it in to an available source on your TV, plug in the power, switch your TV to the source you've connected to Roku, and you will be walked through a brief, simple set-up procedure. (note: our individual concepts of 'brief' and 'simple' may not be the same :-)) Since Roku (and all streaming boxes) draw the content from the Internet, you will need WiFi.
