A streaming device is a device used to install various apps and stream content. Streaming content is watching TV and movies over your internet connection. Most of the time people purchase them if they are looking to minimize their cable bill be dropping the cable box and paying solely for internet. Depending on your cable provider some streaming services such as HBO Go are free with an internet subscription. They can also be used to view videos from your phone or tablet on the TV. Currently I use mine to stream netflix, & HBO Go as these are my only outlets for shows and movies.

And you take it with you when travelling so you still have On Demand TV. Or cut Direct TV and go Netflix and Hulu. that covers a lot of Direct TV Show. You see them when you want to. Not when the Networks tell you to see it.

And it use's app's like the IPAD to deliver movies and tv show's or music or new's and game's to, but simple and family friendly games not the high end games for the console's etc. to you. it can cut cost of cable bill's and satellite tv to use it with netflix and hulu service's. all you need to use Roku is the internet and that is it. Some thing's on the roku can be brought like some games or certain app's or screensaver's. But I stay away from those. There are over 3 thousand or more app's to choose from to watch everything. DirecTV is a competing service and does not stream Neflix and Amazon - it streams what it offers; however, they are pretty much the same. You may want to call a Cable provider in your area and compare pricing. Typically you will save money by ditching DirecTV. The picture is now digital on all competing services.

Roku does not currently have app available for Direct TV Now. Coming soon. So either wait or purchase one of the other options. Personal I Prefer Apple TV for Direct TV Now App. comes with 32 Gig of Storage and 2 Gig of Memory. So more powerful than Fire TV. However there is no 4K option with Apple TV. Only draw back.
