“I have an older WD Media player that plays movies that were converted from DVDs downloads that I have stored on a WD/Seagate external hard drive. Would a Roku play back my MKV, MP4, M4v, AVI, etc files when plugged into my TV?”

I use MKV and mp4 without issue M4v and AVI might be hit or miss as I don't use either of those codecs.

Won't play back my .AVI files but it seems to deal with most everything else. Convert the old .AVI and you are good to go. It has a usb port to use the external drive but I am network connecting mine.

It does have a media player app that may handle those. I recommend using the Plex app to handle those instead.
