It looks like the trim kit is intended for use in a 30" wide cabinet unit, but I cannot find any information on the recommended width and height of the rough opening in the cabinetry, or details on how the trim kit is installed. Anyone have hands-on experience with the trim kit for this microwave?”

DO NOT buy trim kit - This model IS NOT to be installed in a cabinet, etc After reading other answers I can verify that I contacted Samsung today and they verified that this microwave can NOT be installed inside anywhere and that the trim kit advertised for use with the item is NOT for use with this item (unless you just want to add a useless piece of metal to the outside of your microwave.) This microwave is NOT designed to be "installed" in a cabinet, etc. It is designed to be placed ON a counter top with at least 8" above it - but better to have nothing above it. The rep stated that they need to update the website but based on what I have read and seen I do not think that is going to happen so understand what you are buying and what you are NOT buying.

Initially there was a problem like others had with the control panel. No response from the OK button. Samsung dispatched a technician with another panel and no problems since. Kind of confused to what others are saying that it can't be used as a built-in. I installed it in a hardy board enclosure with the trim kit which included duct work to vent the heat though the front. Measured temperature inside the enclosure and never got a reading more than 12 degrees more that room temperature. Except for the initial defect has preform flawlessly and well worth the price of admission. Unit is almost professional quality and unlike most other department store countertop appliances. It is powerful and we'll built as evidenced by it's weight, it is heavy. Broiler is not strong enough to do true justice to a beefsteak, everything else it handles with ease. Bakes beautifully, all heat comes from top of the oven so using the include racks is a necessity so that heat can get beneath the pan. I give 5 Stars and pay full price if need be, it is unique and very useful appliance.
