Use the numbered buttons to enter the amount of cooking time (for example, enter 1 3 0 for 1 minute and 30 seconds of cooking time). The default cooking power is 100%. After you have entered the desired cooking time, press START if you want to cook at 100% power. Do the following if you want to cook at a lower power: --Use the numbered buttons to enter the desired cooking time. --Press the COOK POWER button. --Use the numbered buttons to enter the desired cooking power (10% to 90%). For example, press 3 to cook at 30% power. --Press START.

They are primarily used to enter in the cook time. Additionally, they can be used to enter other things such as the weight (when using weighted defrost) or the power level.
