A:AnswerHi Pat,
Please note that the 18.6" depth includes the handle. The depth of the MC17J8000CS without the handle is about 16".
Thanks for your interest,
Ms. Samsung
A:AnswerHello there! This unit has the flexibility to microwave, bake, broil and roast - all from one appliance. With the combination of convection cooking and microwave heating, food cooks faster and more evenly than traditional microwaves. ^Cole
A:AnswerYes
Top vent, back vent, of recirculating. The microwave actually comes set up for recirculate from the factory so it should be easy to install
A:AnswerI was told to use cookware that you would use in a full oven for convection mode, and microwave safe cookware for microwave settings, e.g., no metal for microwave mode, no plastic for convection mode. The manual goes into some detail about this.
A:AnswerYes. It has a fan in the standard location for filtered recirculation but can be unfastened and turned for a standard top-center exhaust to an outside vent. I bought this for a bargain price as an open box and my tenant installed it to replace an old one that the door had fallen off of. In this case, it is vented to the outside through a brick wall.
A:AnswerThe Air Flow is not what I expected. Has 2 fans in the back about 5in wide each. Air flows around the body sides and back. Not the loudest, but my $250 hood was about 3 times stronger and 2 times quieter.
A:AnswerThis is my first porcelain enamel interior and it seems to work well, It is blue enamel like the old cabin coffeepots. There is a turntable with a big platter and it comes with two racks. The racks are round and have three legs so it rotates with the turntable. I'm used to a fixed rack and I'm not sure I like this method...still getting used to it. Yes, it has an interior light but with the blue interior it doesn't seem as bright as with my GE stainless steel interior.
A:AnswerYes it will, here's some additional info & pictures for you:
1) Avoid Samsung. Ours died "like new" after the warranty expired with light use. Replacement parts cost more than the microwave.
2) Almost all of the microwaves extend comfortably beyond 12" cupboards, but there is a potential problem. You don't want door hinges to be next to the microwave. Let me explain. If the cupboard hinges are next to the microwave, the door face collides with the microwave at 90 degrees. Because the cupboard door hinges are so close to the microwave, the door puts a lot of leverage and pressure on the door hinges when they collide. The hinges will either break, or the screws will come loose, unless you're extremely careful. With our son doing dishes, ours were doomed. In about two weeks the hinges on the cupboard next to the microwave were breaking loose.
SOLUTION: for all kitchen designers! Make sure the opening side of the cabinets are next to the microwave. We turned the door around, placing the opening side near the microwave, and the hinges away from the microwave. It's usually very easy to flip the cupboard door, unless you have installed knobs on the cupboard doors. Fortunately, we hadn't installed knobs yet. My wife was concerned it might look weird, but it the knobs blends right in, and it's not obvious. The way the microwave sticks out also limits access to our spice cupboard on the right.
3) The non-LED lights are completely useless for cooking. It's like cooking in the dark with a small candle for light. Suggest you buy a model with LED lights, or replace the bulb with an LED bulb. Searching for a replacement bulb on the model you intend to buy will tell you the socket you need, and whether or not you can find a LED replacement. Push in bulb vs socket, etc.
4) Determine how you plan to vent the microwave - either back into the kitchen or outside. Outside will require considerable vent routing, and pre-planning, etc.
I've posted some pictures with our replacement LG, but the Samsung was the same exact size
A:AnswerConvection cooking requires only regular oven proof cookware. If you select microwave or a combination microwave/convection cooking option then it needs microwave safe cookware.
A:AnswerYes. A heating element behind left side panel for baking and another element on top for broiling. The broiling element is on one side so the food rotates past under it.
