- Answer Samsung recommends installing the SMH1713 so the bottom is at least 13-1/2" above the surface of the cooktop. Please see the attached image for minimum installation measurements. - Ms. Samsung

QuestionIt says in specs no night light? What is the cooktop light? Are they the same?

- Answer The SMH1713W does have a cook top light that can be set to Hi, Low or Off and can be used as a night light if you wish. There is also an option to set a timer so the light turns on and off at the same time every day, until you choose to change it. For more information, please refer to page 11 of the user manual, which can be downloaded as a pdf file from Samsung's website for easy reference. Thanks for the question, Ms. Samsung

- Answer The SMH1713W can be set up to vent outside from the rear or top of the unit, or filtered air can be recirculated into the room from vents located in the front that are concealed from view. If you plan to vent outside, you may need to purchase the exhaust ducting material separately. I would suggest contacting your local Best Buy Appliance Associates or Installation Team for assistance determining which type of venting best suits your needs, and what materials will be needed. - Answer Yes, you can turn both the button sound and "remind end signal" on or off through the My Settings menu on your SMH1713W microwave. Press My Settings > 2 > 2 to turn the control panel sounds off, or My Settings > 5 > 2 to turn off the "remind end signal". For more information, please refer to page 10 of the user manual that came with your microwave. The manual can also be downloaded as a pdf file from Samsung's website for your convenience. - Ms. Samsung

- Answer The SMH1713 comes with a mounting template to help determine the cutout locations for the exhaust vent either through the cabinet above the microwave or through the wall behind it. I can't tell you whether this would line up with your previous microwave's exhaust vent. - Ms. Samsung

The instructions posted there are for all Samsung over the range microwaves, though you should be sure to check the direction of the blower motor depending on your desired venting. - Ms. Samsung
