“Why do I have an 'SE' error, disabling my microwave, after just 1 year of use? It appears to be a common problem, yet after spending $300 on this microwave, it is useless and I have to throw it out (repair would cost as much as just getting a new one). This hasn't been used much at all, simple reheating now and then. Very disappointed.”

I'm sorry to hear you're having an issue with your SMH1816B. "SE" is the key short error code and it can have different causes. Please try unplugging or, even better, cycling the power to the microwave by turning the circuit breaker off then on again. If the code returns, then service would be needed to determine the cause and correct it.
