    • Answer Not limited to this model or any manufacturer in specific, Windows 8 may not come with specific video decoders. Most people will be surprised if updating to Windows 8 that they aren't able to play DVDs, and that's because many devices are sold today without a CD drive. There's a licensing fee for decoders when provided as part of an OS, and while you can still use data discs, playing DVD movies won't be possible without a decoder. You can always download a free one, like the VLC Player, and get MPEG support that way - so that's one way to add that functionality to your computer.     • Answer This laptop is not voided of warranty, although it'd be best to check with Best Buy directly to find out what warranty options are available when you purchase.
