It doesn't for general purposes. But, if you want to get fancy or have long cooking processes, it's actually kind of nice. In the app (after connected, which also automatically registers your appliance for warranty purposes) you can delay the start of the process if you are trying to coincide with something else - like those 5 minute steamer vegetables to go with a steak your grilling. You can also get notifications through the app of when to flip something you are defrosting or when your food is done. That's kind of nice if you have something that has a long timer - you can do something else, or run outside and not miss when the food is ready.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Because if you have a Samsung range and oven, they can talk to each other and you can turn them on, set timers, all of that stuff from an app.

A microwave doesn't need Wi-Fi to function, but having Wi-Fi can offer added convenience and features. Here are a few reasons why: 1. Remote Control through the SmartThings app 2. Monitoring and Notifications through the SmartThings app 3. Voice Control through Bixby / Amazon / Alexa App /Google Assistant App on your mobile device. While Wi-Fi isn't necessary for the microwave to cook food, it can make the appliance more versatile and user-friendly. Leo
