The 3.5mm headphone jack is found on your computer, not the monitor. Your monitor has absolutely nothing to do with your computer's sound UNLESS it has built in speakers, which this does not (which is why there's no sound over HDMI; out of curiosity, where'd you think it'd come out of? To get sound to go out via HDMI if it's plugged into something that DOES have speakers you must go into your sound settings and change the sound output device from the 3.5mm jacks to the HDMI port/GPU). Very few monitors have headphone jacks on themselves these days and on the ones that do, it's effect is exactly the same as simply plugging into the 3.5mm jack on your computer.
