On this refrigerator (wonderful) the shelf above the crisper draws is very well built and heavy, as such I think you will see far less gunk gets caught in glass/edging area. The glass and corners of the shelf are unlike the ones where the glass is removeable. The drawers come out and then the entire shelp comes out. You will be surprised how easy this unit is to clean and the shelving is the best I have ever seen or owned (I have owned many). Evereything about this fridge is heavy duty in my opinion.
