  • QuestionHow tall is the pedestal?

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer They're about 12.5" or 63.43 mm high. They ate meant solely to raise washer and dryer food to more comfortable height. Any other benefits cited are just plain bull patties It's wrong that these companies try to rip you off with outrageous prices for what is a simple stamped metal box with drawer in it -- their cost is likely around $30 max to make. They should be included at no extra charge with these units which are otherwise too low to use without risking serious damage to your back, including soft tissue, vertebral bodies and discs, which in turn could cause serious injury to you. Stick with new top loading design. Dave you back, avoid the inevitable build up of mold on washer door gasket with front loaders.

  • QuestionGuidelines for installing pedestalsAre there safety or other concerns in mounting washer/dryers up onto the pedestals?

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer You ask a very good question. Several studies have reported thst the centrifigul forces generated by the washer spinning in drying mode (to get as much water out of clothing) and dryer can exceed the tolerance of the simple stamped tin latches (with pins(screws) tying machine and pedastal together). In these cases, the pins have sheeted apart. Once one pin in broken the others will quickly follow. The sheer weight of water logged clothing spinning at up to 300 RPM can generate forces well In excess of design. In carltastrophic failure, top machine rips off bottom and moves -- right off pedastal and falls over onto floor. In addition to damage to immediate area and machine, washers can flood a home in 3-5 minutes. Dryers can cause fires : electrical when torn but live electrical hookup is driwned in water; and gas when gas line either breaks or gets pulled off St either end. One spark from wager can cause explosion. I would NEVER use these pedestal unless they were made with much stronger and thicker metal ( even 14g steel vs stamped alloy) and Much stronger brackets latching bottom to top machine with outboard legs in place to prevent machine from tipping.
