• I personally have only had mine attached via optical cable which was provided with the soundbar, and I am very happy with it.

• I believe optical is supposed to be best, but I can't tell the difference.

• Should not matter, both are digital signal. Don't think one offers any advantage you could hear. If your trying to hook up a game system with HDR the optical may be the better option in case the hdmi does not pass the signal.

• Optical cable is better but not all devices are compatible I went the hdmi route so needed 2 hdmi one from device to sound bar and other from sound bar to tv
