I have a steam washer but I don't use the feature much as it adds several minutes to the cycle time. I would imagine it would work best on durable clothes that have a lot of stains... grass and grease and the like. Basically, steam is associated with lots of heat so the garment better be able to handle high temps. Best bet is to go with a top rated Consumer Reports model that rates well for cleaning regardless of the steam feature.
