The silver ions in the WF448AAW's SilverCare feature come from two small silver plates inside the machine. The kit containing these plates should be replaced by a trained technician after 1000 cycles have been run using SilverCare, which is an option that can be added to most cycles. It is very easy to check whether the kit is due to be replaced, simply by pressing the SilverCare and Signal buttons simultaneously.
