It has a sensor to detect the load size. If you are using a larger load, it's better to get all the items wet so the sensor works properly. The sensor doesn't work so well if 1/2 the clothes are in a dry state. But... you're probably overloading your washer if that's an issue. The only time I find it slightly problematic is if you're washing a single large item, like a queen size comforter. Get it all wet first, and away you go!

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I follow the directions on my detergent. The washer will weight the load and use the appropriate water. I have not had any problem doing that and no soap is staying in my close. We actually love it.
