A:Answer This does have a self clean cycle that should be done monthly which can help. Also you can keep the lid open a few inches for a couple of hours to allow the inside to fully dry. If rust still develops do a self clean cycle with the highest water and highest water temperature and add a couple of cups of lemon juice or a couple of cups of white vinegar. I would personally let it fill for a minute then pause and add either lemon juice or white vinegar at this point. Both lemon juice and white vinegar break down rust deposits. Doing this at the first site of rust (whether visible on drum or staining on clothes) is preferable as you have a higher chance of solving the issue and with less headaches. Checking the insides of your fill hoses is a great idea as well as those can be a source of rust. They are easy to unhook, check, and replace if needed. You can even take the old fill lines with you to the hardware store to make sure you are getting exactly what you need (I do this, and so do many men when replacing anything that had a certain fitting size)
