“Should the detergent always be put in the detergent dispenser, or can it be added directly to the load?”

Although I usually use the dispenser, I've added it both ways and the clothes have come out fine.

It can be added directly to the load, if done before you start as the door will lock once it starts.

Hi Jess, Yes, the detergent dispenser is recommended to be used always with either liquid or powdered detergent for this Samsung washing machine model.
