If your television is not both DirectTV and 4K ready you would need a Genie® HD DVR.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.We just purchased a Samsung 4K UHD television for our bedroom. The DirecTV technician came to our home and replaced the existing satellite dish lens and replaced the receiver box in our bedroom with a new Genie box. He replaced the existing remotes with new Genie remotes for the other televisions in the house. Only the bedroom television can receive UHD channels. DirecTV is currently broadcasting only three test UHD channels -- nothing on regular channels. We also had to upgrade to the Ultimate package with a two-year contract.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I am not aware of DirecTV broadcasting any 4K shows/channels as yet. So no new box is needed. And when they do broadcast 4K channels they probably won't require a new box. There are DVD players that will play a 4K DVD or upgrade a Blu-Ray to 4K if the TV supports it.
