• Yes, they will still be functional if you use the optical connection. You will not, however, have Dolby Atmos.

• Funny you ask.......... I do not have it running thru HDMI . I use the optical cable and the subwoofer seems fine (sometimes in and out) The rear speakers are a waist of money... its a whisper at most but they do work..... thought about returning the system because of it... Verrrrrry disappointing for a $1200 sound bar
