“What is the method of self cleaning for this range? Does it use steam cleaning or just high temperature cleaning? Also which is best? I am thinking steam cleaning would be the best out of the two, but have never own a self cleaning oven before.”

It uses high heat. Steam loosens up baked on particles; whereas high heat turns them to ash. Personally I have never and will likely never use the self cleaning feature. With either cleaning method, you have to go back and wipe up the mess once the oven has turned it to ash or loosened it. Regardless of the self-cleaning process, you're still left cleaning!
