Those are some great questions, Cath! To help with this, first I'm providing this link (https://bit.ly/3y92Ojx) to the user manual. Page 28 discusses the kitchen timer feature that beeps when the set time has elapsed, but does not start or stop cooking functions. Page 33 talks about the timed cook feature that only works with the oven compartment and shuts off the heating elements when the set time has elapsed. ^Jecca
