“Is there a backguard to purchase to fill in the 1" to 1-1/2" gap behind the range? I did purchase the Samsung 4" backguard NXAB5400RB but it did not fit even though I originally asked Samsung to verify before I purchased.Anything to stop the spill?”

I am not sure why you have such a large gap - mine is less than a half inch. My guess is that your electrical box is preventing your moving the stove back far enough. I bought a maple board, cut it to length and width, painted it black and used it as an insert to match the height of my backsplash. I have the tools to do so.
