• I noticed that on my tv it does this too, but it all depends on the device that is connected to the tv. If there is no signal, it will dim.

• Is there an eco mode turned on? I've seen that happen on LG sets where eco mode dims the screen after a few moments if Eco is turned on. I think I might have seen a similar setting on my Samsung, but I'm not at home to check right now. So I'm just guessing, unfortunately, yet am hopeful this might be the solution.
